Nomadic Dragons Robotics Team Shines at the Astana Regional FIRST Championship!

We are excited to share the outstanding achievements of our Haileybury Astana Robotics Team, the Nomadic Dragons, who recently participated in the Astana Regional FIRST Championship and returned with multiple prestigious awards.

This remarkable success reflects the team's dedication, passion for innovation, and exemplary teamwork, making our school proud on a significant stage in the field of robotics. The Nomadic Dragons competed in the First LEGO League Challenge, an internationally recognised robotics competition that encourages young minds to explore real-world engineering challenges. In this competitive setting, the team demonstrated not only their technical skills but also their commitment to the values that FIRST Robotics champions. Their efforts and ingenuity earned them two impressive accolades:

  • Core Values Award: This award recognises teams that demonstrate respect, inclusion, and exceptional teamwork – essential qualities in the robotics community.
  • Breakthrough Award: This award celebrates teams that have shown remarkable progress in their journey, embracing challenges and advancing their skills and capabilities through perseverance and hard work.

In addition to these achievements in the First LEGO League Challenge, our younger robotics team also participated in another category, bringing home further awards that highlight their professionalism and creativity:

  • Gracious Professionalism Award: Given to teams who show respect, encourage fellow competitors, and promote friendly collaboration, this award speaks to the heart of FIRST Robotics’ mission and our school’s commitment to cultivating ethical, responsible leaders.
  • Best Engineering Book Award: This accolade is awarded for producing the best engineering design journal, recognising the team's meticulous documentation and detailed understanding of their technical process.

These awards are not only a testament to the technical and intellectual capabilities of the Nomadic Dragons, but they also highlight the creativity, resilience, and collaborative spirit that drive them forward. The competition offered valuable learning experiences, as our students engaged with their peers, learned from seasoned mentors, and explored cutting-edge technology in robotics and engineering. Through this journey, our students not only refined their skills but also developed a lifelong appreciation for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) – foundational fields that will shape the world of tomorrow.

The success of the Nomadic Dragons would not be possible without the tireless support of their coaches, mentors, and families, whose guidance and encouragement have been crucial to their achievements. These results reflect the commitment of our entire Haileybury community to fostering an environment where students are inspired to pursue their passions and excel beyond the classroom.
