U13 COBIS GAMES — British School Haileybury Almaty

U13 COBIS GAMES

Our U13 COBIS squad just returned after a fantastic weekend of sport in Sheffield, UK. After selecting this squad in late November, we were able to work on a variety of areas in the build up to the Games. As well as being selected for the Games, these students were required to attend 3 training sessions a week, with a large focus on swimming during the winter months. This work in the pool really paid off, and in Sheffield, we managed to get 17 Personal Bests out of 20 races, an incredible ratio.

We  were placed higher than we have ever done in the pool, and also had Katya Kim and Arsen Amankulov make the finals of the breastroke - Arsen only missed out on a medal by a fraction of a second. This momentum continued into the athletics, and our regular interval training (which was not popular!) meant we were considerably more competitive in the track events.

Again, we had more personals bests, and boys team captain Timur Ibragimov took Haileybury’s first ever field medal in a COBIS athletics competition - winning bronze in the discus. In the football, both our boys and girls enjoyed victories against British Spring College, but in strangely hot weather for the UK, tired a little after a weekend of incredible efforts and achievements.

This group can be particularly happy with the way they conducted themselves, and even managed to get involved in the end of games disco (although the dancing on show might be another area for development!).

Thank you to our trip staff: Mr Erskine, Mr French and Ms Olga Kostyleva for their work with the group.
