Balkan success

As a member of the national team of Kazakhstan, our pupil Yuri T took part in the 23rd Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO-2019), which was held from 20 to 25 June 2019 in the city of Agros (the Republic of Cyprus).

97 pupils from 16 countries took part in these international competitions. 17 teams were represented in total at the Olympiad (the host country, the Republic of Cyprus, had the right to offer 2 teams).

Ten of these teams were from the Balkan Peninsula (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Romania) and 7 guest teams were from Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Croatia , France, Ecuador.

Yuri showed excellent results individually and was awarded a gold medal. In the overall standings the national team of Kazakhstan showed the best result in the entire history of its participation in the Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, gaining 179 points and taking 2nd place in the team competition, losing only to the Romania’s team (1st place). Our team won 2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal.

We congratulate Yuri on such a significant victory and wish him further success in studying mathematics and conquering new heights!
