Haileybury Almaty Hosts Its Model United Nations Conference

On 29–30 November, Haileybury Almaty proudly hosted its Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, bringing together 120 talented young delegates from Almaty and the wider Almaty Region.

The conference continues to serve as one of the school’s flagship academic events, offering students an engaging platform to strengthen their public speaking, leadership, teamwork, and debating skills while deepening their understanding of complex global issues.

Inspiring Voices from Global Leadership

This year’s conference was enriched by two distinguished guest speakers whose insights elevated the experience for all participants:

  • Mr Jahn Karsybaev, Managing Partner at Big Sky Capital VC
  • Ms Akmaral Sman, Queen Mary University of London MPA, Social Impact and Green Jobs Expert advising international banks and the United Nations

Their addresses encouraged students to pursue their ambitions with confidence, remain open-hearted, and use their abilities to contribute meaningfully to society.

Debate Across Five UN Committees

Over the course of two days, delegates took part in dynamic discussions across five prominent UN committees:

  • United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
  • United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
  • United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
  • United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

Their thoughtful perspectives, constructive negotiations, and compelling resolutions showcased remarkable diplomatic skill and critical thinking.
