Careers Day

As part of the Haileybury Explorer Programme, on the 8th of June, Haileybury Astana hosted our first Careers Day for pupils in Years 10, 11 and 12. This event is aimed to get our students to think about their future path.

For our first-ever Careers Day ever we had Representatives from esteemed companies such as Air Astana, Ernst & Young, Digital Holding Qazaqstan, INK Architects and Ritz Carlton Hotels, as guests at Haileybury. In addition, there were notable organisations including Nazarbayev University, the Canadian Embassy and the United Nations, who met with our students and discussed perspectives in choosing a certain career. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the companies for their support and active participation in this essential event for our students.

After taking the IB, according to Lanterna education, on average about 6.7% of IB students drop out of University in the first year, which is much lower than the overwhelming 24.3% of some of the other graduate courses. We here at Haileybury Astana want to make sure that that number is 0% for our students. We want our students to achieve excellence in their life. Careers Day makes this possible or at least helps push our students, who are not yet completely sure about what they want to do with their life (this is absolutely fine), into a certain direction.

By letting professionals tell our students about potential jobs, we help our students decide what they may want to and definitely do not want to do. By allowing our students to engage with these individuals we reduce the risk that a pupil ends up in the wrong field and decides to change courses. Whereas, the dropout rate is only 6.7% the chaning of courses after the first year, by IB students, is a much higher statistic.

We are helping our students, through Careers Days and other events, by reducing the risk of a potential waste of time but also of money.
