Celebrating Unity Day at Haileybury Astana

Kazakhstan marks the 1st of May - People’s Unity Day, the holiday that is aimed to strengthen ties, respect and tolerance between different ethnicities.

Here in Haileybury Astana, we are a community of peace seekers and changemakers. Our goal is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

We would like to thank Miss Hakobyan, Mrs Fraser and the Pupil Leadership Team for organizing this event. We would also like to express our gratitude to our special guests John Silver, Heide Jovanovic and Holder Kolay for participating in a panel session with our students.

For Unity Day, all the pupils were wearing their national costumes or orange clothes, which represents the colour of unity. Also, we created enormous school chain of hope, which brings us all together. All the pupils wrote what makes them unique on the chains.

And the last event of the day was a wonderful Unity Parade, where everyone in this school, including Junior and Senior School, walked together side by side.
