Kazakh Student Makes History at the Breakthrough Junior Challenge

A student from Kazakhstan and Haileybury Astana pupil, Tomiris Abylkairova, has become the first Kazakh girl to enter the Top 30 semi-finalists of the global Breakthrough Junior Challenge — an international science competition where tens of thousands of students create educational science videos. Tomiris dedicated her video to a topic close to every Kazakh — kymyz. In just two minutes, she explains to an international audience its benefits, unique biological properties, and cultural significance. Her project is a contribution to promoting Kazakh science and culture on the world stage.
