We are delighted to celebrate an outstanding set of results from our pupils who competed in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 2 (BMO2) this January.
BMO2 is the most elite tier of the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust senior competition series. It is a 3.5-hour examination consisting of four extremely challenging problems, and pupils are assessed not only on their final answers, but on the quality and structure of their full written mathematical proofs.
Results
- Seongwon (Eddie) (Year 11) - Merit / Best in Year (BiY)
- Erik (Year 12) - Distinction / Best in Year (BiY)
- Amirlan (Year 13) - Merit
- Timur (Year 13) - Distinction / Best in School (BiS)
A special congratulations goes to Eddie, who is the youngest student at Haileybury Almaty to ever reach BMO Round 2 - a remarkable achievement at Year 11 level.
Why BMO Round 2 matters
Qualification for BMO2 is highly selective, with only around 100 top-scoring students invited from Round 1. The competition rewards deep insight, creativity, and disciplined proof-writing rather than speed alone - and strong performance is widely respected by leading universities, including University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.
Congratulations again to all pupils involved - your hard work, resilience, and intellectual ambition are genuinely inspiring.
