Haileybury Almaty Hosts FOBISIA’s Prestigious Visual Art Competition

This year, we had the honour of hosting the FOBISIA Art and Design Competition, a creative initiative that invited students across Asia to explore the theme:  “Earth Canvas: Young Artists for a Greener Tomorrow”

Art has the power to inspire, challenge, and ignite meaningful conversations. At Haileybury Almaty, we believe in nurturing young voices and giving them a platform to express their thoughts, concerns, and aspirations.

With climate change being one of the most pressing issues of our time, many young people experience growing eco-anxiety. Art allows them to channel their emotions, communicate their concerns, and inspire positive change. The competition encouraged students to use their creativity to depict a world where sustainability and innovation go hand in hand.

The response was overwhelming! We received over 600 entries from talented young artists across Asia, each presenting a unique perspective on how we can build a greener future. The passion, creativity, and depth of thought reflected in these artworks were truly remarkable.

Judging & Selection Process 🏆

Shortlisting these exceptional pieces was no easy task. A panel of students, including our Junior School and Senior School Art Captains, engaged in passionate debates over the messages conveyed in each piece, the clarity of the theme, and the overall visual impact. The shortlisted works then moved to our esteemed judging panel, which included:

• An Environmental Representative from an International Embassy in Almaty

• Radha Pandya – Deputy Head of Haileybury Almaty

• Jo Pullen – Head of Art, Haileybury Almaty

• Assiya Setzhan – Art Technician, Haileybury Almaty

After much deliberation, we are proud to present the winners and highly commended artists across six key stage categories!
