Y13 pupil Aliya and former Haileybury Almaty pupil Sofia have organised an international STEM competition.
Gen Science Competition is a biology, chemistry, and physics competition open worldwide for all students under 18. The competition requires 9-12 grade students to submit a research project and 0-8 grade students to make a fun, but stimulating video project.
Aliya and Sofia got inspired with the idea for the Competition because they wanted to create a Science Olympiad that would not be limited to a specific country, a school, or age group. Relying on their knowledge gained in Haileybury science classes and clubs, Aliya and Sofia have come up with questions that they are sure would spark interest in science and creativity in any competitor.
In their pursuit to further support youth in science, Aliya and Sofia have also started a fundraising campaign. The goal of the fundraiser is to donate modern STEM equipment to schools in Almaty in order to make studying of science in Kazakhstan more accessible. As part of the campaign, Aliya and Sofia organised a series of webinars with a Yale professor and an astrophysics expert from Australia, and every donator gets a chance to win a personal consultation from a college admission counsellor from the USA.
