The Year 1 and 2 and Year 3 and 4 Sports Day’s took place this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather was beautiful and the Haileybury astro-turf was jam packed with an athletics circuit where pupils were very keen to demonstrate all the skills that they had learnt in their recent track and field unit.
The pupils were put into mixed house groups from the same year group and had to work together to accumulate points at each of the 8 athletic stations.
Each station allowed for differentiation so that pupils could work and earn points relative to their ability whilst fostering strong working relationships with people from their own house.
The pupils worked extremely hard at each 8 minute station and were seen to be demonstrating good technique and posture whilst sprinting, jumping and throwing.
Once the circuit had finished, the pupils were put into house groups to perform a 6 minute continuous baton relay. Tension was high as each house battled for the top spot and to win the coveted Sports Day Trophy, but the friendly rivalry and sportsmanship demonstrated by our pupils and parents was exemplary.
Thank you once again to all who made both these sports days such a success.
