Haileybury Astana Highlights of 2022

Haileybury Astana Highlights of 2022

A week is left before the start of the new academic year! To mark the beginning of the new school year, we would like to recall the most exciting moments that occurred in Haileybury Astana. Strap yourselves in for a phenomenal ride!

IB results, University destinations

We said goodbye to our graduates who received outstanding results in the IB Diploma Programme examinations. The IB average pupil point score for the school was 37 points compared to the global average of 32. With over 30% of our pupils achieving 39 points or above, all of our students will be pursuing degrees at renowned universities in the US, UK, Canada, Europe and Asia.

Olympiads

Throughout the whole academic year, Haileybury Astana invited pupils from all over Kazakhstan to participate in a variety of Olympiads.

  • Mathematics Olympiad

For the second year in a row pupils from different schools in Nur-Sultan competed in solving interesting problems from different areas of mathematics. The competition attended students who had just started delving into the world of formulas and numbers, as well as winners of the National and International Mathematics Olympiads.

  • STEAM Olympiad

STEAM advances pupils in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Haileybury Astana actively involves STEAM in the curriculum. The STEAM Olympiad was a hands-on, fun and engaging team challenge; designed to test the student's problem solving, practical, communication and teamwork skills.

  • English Olympiad

Saturday 21st May brought the inaugural English Olympiad here at Haileybury Astana. The English Olympiad was a fun and exhilarating challenge that served as a bridge between Haileybury Astana and various schools in Nur-Sultan.

Conferences

  • TEDxYouth@HaileyburyAstana

The second annual TEDxYouth conference was held in Haileybury Astana. Speakers were invited to interpret the concept of “Unique”. Organizing such a prominent educational event became a great feature of the Sixth Form.

  • HASTMUN 2021 (Haileybury Astana Model United Nations Conference)

Participation in the MUN conference is open to all Sixth Form students. HASTMUN is designed for pupils who are interested in taking part in high-profile international conferences and events. Students had an opportunity to discuss topics ranging from public diplomacy and development to peacekeeping and conflict prevention.

Events

At Haileybury Astana, we believe in the importance of promoting diversity, and cultural differences and cultivating acceptance and open-mindedness. This is to make the lives of our pupils more interesting and well-rounded, as well as to help them learn how to respect each other. Launching fun and meaningful activities during Nauryz and Unity Day and hosting fundraising events have united the community and brought everyone together.

Mathematics achievements

Our Junior and Senior School pupils were actively participating in mathematical competitions. Merey, one of our IB students, showcased her talent for the subject on a spectrum of Olympiads and mathematical challenges. She took third place at the Asian-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, won a bronze medal at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad and took a Silver Medal at the National Mathematics Olympiad.

Pupil Leadership Team

To exercise leadership, communication and confidence traits, Sixth Form students were offered to take part in Pupil Leadership Team elections (PLT). Identifying students’ needs and voicing the opinions of their fellow classmates proved to be an exciting task.
