Register for English Olympiad

The Secondary English Department of Haileybury Astana would like to welcome all interested students to take part in the second English Olympiad and we hope it will be a fantastic way for the students to challenge themselves further in the English Language, to demonstrate their skills in using it and their pleasure in communicating well.

The English Olympiad will be a fun and engaging challenge; designed to test the student's linguistic and communication skills. The event will take place on Saturday 19th of November, 2022 at Haileybury Astana School.

Requirements:

A. Pre-event qualification:

  • Write a piece of creative writing (any text type) which explores, through your eyes, the ways in which your education has shaped you as a whole person, ready to face the challenges of life.

B. English Olympiad Final:

  • To participate, the student must submit a piece of creative writing by October 15th. It should be no more than 1000 words in length and should be submitted via Google Form.
  • Twenty students will be selected from the submissions to attend the event on 19th November: if you do not receive an invitation by October 22nd, please assume that the submission has not been successful.
  • All selected students must be able to travel to Haileybury Astana in person for the event on Saturday 19th November.

HASTMUN 2023
HASTMUN 2023 is a student-led Model United Nations (MUN) conference where young people can come together to discuss global issues. This year's theme, chosen by the students themselves, was "Mitigating injustice for a fairer future".

"KNAMM" Art Exhibition
On the 9th of March, Haileybury Astana Art Department opened the doors to the 'KNAMM' Art Exhibition which was held by Year 13 IB students. The word "KNAMM" means "come to us" in Russian, and is also an abbreviation of the names of the students who organised the exhibition: Kamilla, Naira, Anar, Merei and Maria.

World Book Day Parade
Last week, Junior School pupils took part in various activities to celebrate Reading Week. It started with a 'Pair Reading' event where pupils from different age groups read a book together and then participated in a 'Get caught reading' competition.
