Our group of students in Year 11, 12, and 13 created four UN Committees:
the Security Council,
the World Health Organization,
the High Commission on Refugees and
the Commission on Science and Technology for Development.
Over 100 delegates from all over the world, from Kazakhstan and also India, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, and Europe participated. They each had to represent a country and defend their position in the debates and resolutions.
Awards and Honourable Mentions were made for Best Delegates and Best Position Papers, but most importantly, all participants had a great time.
The Haileybury group was in charge of the organization, as Chairs and Co Chairs of each committee, plus the Secretary-General and Under Secretary General of the UN. They kept the debates under control, marked all the position papers, and kept the delegates interested and engaged. Like the best of diplomats, friends were made everywhere.
Very special thanks to the Ambassador of the UK to Kazakhstan, Ms. Kathy Leach, who made the keynote speech during the Opening Ceremony, and to the Ambassador of Spain to NATO, Mr. Alvaro Iranzo, who had a lively Question and Answer session with the delegates on the important issues in the world today during the Closing Ceremony.
Many students are now contemplating a career as a diplomat after these inspirational stories.
Congratulations to all participants!
The MUN team is already planning their next adventure, online and in person.
Special thanks to teachers trainers, Ana Munoz and Steve Stockermans
