The mathematical maze of magic and mystery unfolded on Thursday morning, during our annual Haileybury Almaty Mad Maths Morning.
All of our fabulous Primary pupils, from Year 1 through to Year 6, participated in the challenge, endeavouring to approach each stimulus in a divergent, mathematical way.
Thinking logically & analytically, outside of the box, looking for patterns, connections & interpretations in a plethora of images to stimulate critical thinking and discussion.
In teams, they collaborated, listened, suggested, asked questions and taught each other, to find the path through the beauty of mathematical thinking.
We could smell the synaptic activity, we could hear the vibrations of children chattering and problem solving together, using all of our ever-present Haileybury Habits. Eighty members of staff and many of our 6th Form students led teams or were judges, and all unanimously agree that it is a fantastic to hear the children discussing across the year groups, to see the older pupils teaching the younger ones, and to see our Haileybury pupils striving to achieve a common goal. Real team work, real learning, real experience. These are our fabulous pupils, taking advantage of every single learning opportunity.
All of our pupils are congratulated on their achievements in mathematical learning this year – and we know they will continue facing the challenges in problem solving, remembering why we study mathematics… because, simply put, it absolutely makes us smarter.
Many thanks to our pupils and staff for everything they do for each other and for our school community. Vivat Haileyburia – Sursum Corda indeed.
